Welcome to CareStation
Welcome to CareStation, our new blog for AGIS. CareStation will be a platform for discussions on topics facing individuals dealing with caregiving and long term care, along with updates for AGIS users with information regarding upgrades and new features for our site.
Providing eldercare and long term care for family members is one of the most costly, yet least understood health care challenges in the United States. Today there are “more than 50 million people provide care for a chronically ill, disabled or aged family member or friend” and 34 million adults (16% of population) provide care to adults 50+ years at an estimated expense that totals $300 billion annually. This means one out of four US households are involved in caring for elderly relatives and loved ones.
When AGIS started out back in the late 1990’s, we recognized the opportunity the internet brought to the caregiving industry to distribute deep, rich information and solutions into peoples’ homes. Back then the majority of eldercare and caregiving providers and professionals were not online. AGIS (then AssistGuide) set about web-enabling provider after provider in Hawaii and then across the nation so families could access their products, services and knowledge. Many of those professionals are still our clients 10 years later. Today, the next generation of internet tools present an amazing opportunity to not only connect to the experts in the field, but the many “trial by fire” experts i.e. the family caregivers. With 34 million caregivers how helpful the sharing and in some cases commiserating can be! Caregivers, we are not alone, we can reach out to one another and to the experts. Today, we are all just a couple of clicks away from each other! As I go through one of these events yet again in my family, this is extremely comforting to know.
AGIS is a pioneering online solution for eldercare, long term care and disability information, with the mission to connect caregivers to information, resources, providers and programs that improve the quality of life for eldercare givers and recipients. With CareStation, we hope to be able to provide valuable insights and useful information that will assist those searching for relevant, trusted information.
